A Brief History
St. Mary’s Assumption Church has been serving the Lower Garden/Irish Channel communities since 1860, when construction of the church was completed with the cooperation of early German immigrants who practiced their faith in St. Mary’s. The Church building, an architectural and historical treasure, is in great need of restoration repairs to correct the damage caused by storms.
As stewards of this historic treasure, we are compelled to raise the necessary funds to preserve the church building for future generations.
Repairs in the past have been made piecemeal, as each crisis arose. To adequately preserve the church, the existing damage must be repaired in a comprehensive manner to stop leaks and prevent additional deterioration.
